Where Do Babies Sleep?

A couple of nights ago Katie's sister slept on our couch and it got me thinking....where do babies sleep?

I always thought that babies sleep in a crib in the other room, but I've been made painfully aware that a lot of babies sleep in the bed with mom and dad.

I taught an investigator on my mission who had a pet monkey that would sleep in her bed and one night she rolled over and killed it! Does that happen with babies? Could I roll over on my baby in my sleep? Isn't that pretty dangerous?

Where do babies sleep?

  1. Hey Jake, Congrats on the baby!! As far as having them sleep with you I would not recomend it!! They want to sleep with you until they are 3 or more. That is a very hard habit to break!!! Coming from personal experience!!

  3. Baby's sleep in all sorts of places, depending on the parent's and the baby. They can sleep in the room next to you, a bassinet in your room, in a swing, in your bed, or even in your arms all day every day. It all depends on you and your baby, but most babies really will sleep anywhere.

This is one of the many parental debates out there; to let the baby sleep in your bed or to not. I was completely against it before I had kids, but now I'm a part-time "co-sleeper", as they're called. There is risk to it, so you just have to weigh the risks and benefits. I haven't had any near accidents because I've become a very light sleeper since becoming a mom, so I am very aware of my baby's presence when I sleep. I do it mostly out of convenience, because nursing in bed lets everyone get more sleep. Also, I only let them sleep with me for the first few months, and try to get them to sleep in their bed a lot as well. Ya know, like they start off the night in their own bed and take naps in their own bed. It's worked out well for my first two, so I'm hoping #3 has the same outcome. Only a few months with me and then they're weaned into their own bed completely.

Good luck figuring out what you want to do! And don't freak out if you change your mind in either direction after your baby is born! :P
