Katie and I have been discussing the possibility of not finding out the sex of the child before the birth.
Pros: More excitement and anticipation, less ultrasounds (can't be good for the baby, right?), endless speculation for us and our family and friends, gender guessing games.
Cons: Not knowing, unisex preparations (unisex clothes, blankets, etc.), unable to plan future football team.... that's all I got.
Tell me your experiences with this.
This is obviously a personal decision, but for me personally I don't like the idea of waiting to find out. I played around with the idea of not finding out, but ultimately I found out and was glad I did because it really made the bond between baby and us that much stronger... for us. I like being able to call my baby by name while he/she's still in me. It's more personal then referring to it as an "it". There's that element of excitment with not finding out, but there's still excitement in finding out.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had any experience with this yet, :( but I vote for finding out. :)
ReplyDeletepros - get to annoy your friends by making us speculate.
ReplyDeletecons - oh wait, the pro was a con. just find out! i want to know! :)
Don't find out! It doesn't matter what the sex is. You will love it no matter what and it will be way more fun. Think of how exciting it will be when the baby is born and you get to tell everyone.
ReplyDeletePlus..you should probobly buy mostly gender neutral stuff for the big stuff (car seat, crib bedding, swings etc.) so you can use it for later kids. I will go shopping the second little pea is born and buy you loads of gender specific stuff.
After we found out with Olive I had dreams of giant man parts on my baby girl. Save Katie from those awful dreams.
P.S. You will still have the same amount of ultrasounds either way because the ultrasound they use to determine the sex is not really to determine the sex, it is to check on all the organ, growth and such.
Are you surprised I have a strong opinion? haha
First of all, congratulations! Secondly, anticipation is strong enough the first half of the pregnancy...let's be honest, it's still a surprise at week 20 (or for me 24) when you find out what you are having. As for ultrasounds not being good for the baby, care providers generally encourage you to get an ultrasound just to make sure the baby's heart, brain, diaphragm, etc. all look good. Obviously, personal decision, but I say find out.
